Take action for the Red Cross
Do you enjoy teaching, do you have some time available during the week and do you like to contribute to a social organization? Then we are looking for you!
The Red Cross education team is involved in giving guest lessons and games within education. We strive to increase respect, self-reliance and willingness to help among as many children and young people as possible.
At the moment we have room for guest teachers/game leaders who, together with other volunteers, provide guest lessons at schools for VO and MBO. For these target groups we have developed the following lesson programs:
· Guest lecture “Hero of Humanity”: Do you help or don't you help? Pupils/students use their phones to produce a voice from videos with recognisable situations. You not only inform, but also guide the conversation and encourage participants to actively think about their role in various situations and the associated dilemmas.
· “The Humanity Game”. The class plays against each other in teams: who is best able to provide the most appropriate emergency aid with limited resources? Four major international disasters are discussed. The team that makes the best choices and has the most knowledge questions correct wins the game.
What are you going to do?
· You provide at least 8 lessons and/or games per year in your region, you choose which lessons you register for.
· After completing a number of training courses, you will prepare lessons independently and deliver them together with a fellow volunteer.
Who are you?
· You enjoy teaching and have an affinity with the target group (young people aged 12-23).
· You are regularly available during school hours.
· You are digitally skilled; online teaching materials are used in the lessons.
· You endorse the seven basic principles of the Red Cross.
What can you expect from us?
To familiarize yourself with the teaching material and our philosophy, you will first follow a few online modules and a training at a location in the region. Depending on your education and experience, you will also follow a course in didactics. Regional meetings take place once a quarter where you will meet other guest lecturers and there is an annual national education meeting with interesting workshops. The Red Cross will reimburse your travel expenses.
