Summary
Richard really enjoys walking to escape the crowdsDetailed description
Who is Richard?
Richard is a 33-year-old man with a severe intellectual disability. He functions about at the level of someone who is 4 months old. So he is completely dependent on the caretakers around him. He lives in a residential group on the grounds of 's Heeren Loo and receives 24-hour care. Richard is a cheerful and contented man. He experiences his world around him in the here and now. He loves lights, sounds, Dutch music and other experiences of the senses. Richard's sight is limited, but he hears very well. He cannot speak, but he expresses how he feels through sounds. He laughs when he's happy! He does this especially when he can go for a nice walk. Richard uses a wheelchair.
If he doesn't feel comfortable, he will show this with movements.
What is Richard asking?
For Richard we are looking for a volunteer who wants to take nice walks with him on the grounds of 's Heeren Loo. He prefers to go through wind and weather! Activities in the group sometimes go too fast for him. That's why he enjoys 1 on 1 attention so much. If there is a good click, the volunteer could be taken to activities outside the site. There is always a supervisor with you!
Richard benefits from a calm, relaxed buddy. This is because he has poor eyesight and has to do a lot by ear.
He can walk daily between 10:00-16:30. Once a week would be very nice!
