Summary
Talk Moroccan together, experience the culture, pray and enjoy a bite to eat in our restaurant; just be yourself!Detailed description
Who is Mo?
Mo is a man of 52 years old. He is from Morocco and came to the Netherlands in his teens. A few years ago, Mo had an accident, after which he fell into a coma, resulting in brain damage. Since then he lives in a residential group for people with intellectual disabilities on our property. Mo is a helpful and caring man and is involved with people around him. He finds it important to be treated honestly, seriously and as an adult. There are things that he finds difficult, such as postponing something or things that have to be done within his living group. He may occasionally respond with verbal and physical aggression. His supervisors say that this will not happen with a volunteer, because it is a setting where he can be himself and relax. In that situation, nothing is expected of him. Mo is mobile, but can be unsteady on his feet at times. He then uses a wheelchair. Because of his brain injury, he is home all day. He likes to help with the household. Mo reads the Koran and only eats Halal. He enjoys watching football on TV and listening to music; especially to Moroccan music or Reggae. Mo smokes.
What is Mo asking?
Mo receives a visit from his parents every other Monday. He can then speak Moroccan for a while and then feel much freer. They then go together to the restaurant on our site and eat fries there. Away from the group, don't have to do anything, speak your own language and get away from it all.
We give him this every Monday!
We are looking for an Islamic Moroccan volunteer (man), who wants to mean something to him every other Monday. Together to our restaurant, talk about Moroccan culture and pray. Preferably on Monday somewhere between 10:00 and 14:00, but something else may also be possible in consultation.
Someone who understands his situation (non-congenital brain injury).
As a volunteer you will of course receive the necessary guidance from his supervisors.
