Summary

Maria is a woman with a severe intellectual disability. Visitors are a party for her.

Detailed description

Who is Mary?

Maria is a sweet 38 year old lady with a lot of temperament. Maria is blind and deaf, she cannot speak. Communication takes place by making contact and offering referrers. Maria quickly knows who she is dealing with when people return regularly. Maria walks indoors, outdoors she uses a wheelchair. Maria's mood can sometimes change quickly, from happy to restless. When Maria is restless she may pinch or scratch. Her supervisors will tell you how to deal with this. Maria is a huge sun worshiper, so she prefers to be outside in the summer. Maria enjoys the vibrations of music, horse riding, cycling, swimming and walking (in wheelchair).

What does Maria ask?

Maria enjoys receiving visitors, she now receives visits from her aunts once a month and would also like to receive a permanent visiting volunteer who would like to take the time to visit her more often. Maria would like to do the activities she loves together. The day or time doesn't matter to Maria, but the weekend is extra fun. On Mondays from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM Maria goes horse riding, it is nice if the regular volunteer comes along. Regularity is important because Maria will then recognize the volunteer. The volunteer should not find it annoying that Maria does not talk back and should adapt to Maria's pace. The volunteer must also be able to keep calm when Maria is restless. Of course, you will receive guidance for this from her supervisors.
