Summary
On the special fortress island of Pampus you receive the guests in our museum shop, you take them into the fort and ensure an unforgettable day!Detailed description
Due to the special circumstances regarding Corona, we are also looking for volunteers who only want to help us as hostess or host this summer period July and August.
Fort Island Pampus
Fort Island Pampus is a special place: it is a wonderfully green and quiet island, but it also houses an ominous historical fortress. We let our visitors discover the island and the fortress in many ways. Pampus is also the visitor center of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. The Defense Line is a defense line, consisting of 42 forts, dikes and countless locks, of which the remains can still be found in the area. The Defense Line of Amsterdam is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. On Pampus we tell both the story of Pampus and the story of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. And, to make it even more special, we are also working on becoming a fully self-sufficient island in terms of water supply and energy. Just like 100 years ago!
Activities
As a host you will receive the guests in our museum shop. You are the first point of contact for our guests there. You make them feel welcome on the island, you sell treasure hunts and souvenirs, you guide the guests on the island and provide information about Pampus and the Defense Line. Children come to collect their reward from you after the treasure hunt. It is always a joy to make them happy!
You alternate the task in the store with a task in the fort: There you guide our visitors on the spectacular route 'The secret weapon of Amsterdam'. You take the visitors back in time, as it were. You give a short historical introduction and then take the guests with you for an unforgettable virtual balloon flight over the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Visitors visibly enjoy this experience!
Pampus is an island. Both you and your guests have literally turned their backs to the crowds and you can feel it! There is often a relaxed and cozy atmosphere on Pampus. A nice place to be!
Working hours
At 09.30 you leave with the work boat from the Muiderslot to the island. There you help prepare the island before the first visitors arrive at 10:30 AM. You sail with the last ferry back to Muiden at 17:00.
Soak in
There are a number of gatherings at the beginning of the season. The volunteer coordinator tells you everything about the island, the fort, the organization and of course about your activities. You will feel completely at home before the island officially opens again to our visitors. The first real working day you work together with the volunteer coordinator. Have you mastered your task? Then you will get to work after this first working day. Of course there is the fort keeper who is present every day and guides you in your work.
Team Pampus
In addition to hosts, Pampus volunteers are active as guides, school supervisors, handymen and landscapers. Volunteers also help with bookings and administration at the shore base in Muiden. Altogether 80 volunteers are active. The volunteers, together with the catering staff, the event staff and the permanent team of the museum branch, form a warm, cozy and close-knit team. Before the season starts, we all go out for a day. During the year there are some (information) meetings where we see each other. In October, when we close the museum season again, we will have a party together.
What do we offer you?
You become part of that cozy Team Pampus, with which we go out at least once a year. You will receive a travel allowance for the days you come to Pampus. You do not have to bring your own sandwiches, lunch is provided. At the end of your working day, you can relax with a drink in the catering industry. Of course you always have free access to the fort and you also receive a number of free tickets so that you can also introduce your friends or family to your workplace.
