Summary
We are looking for hostesses and/or hosts during the afternoon shifts on Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday afternoon.Detailed description
In consultation you will be scheduled 1 evening per week or possibly every 2 weeks. Markt 17 is an accessible meeting place. A place where you can meet other people and/or eat together. A place where people listen and where attention, respect and hospitality are central.
Job description:
Your work consists of receiving visitors, making contact with them. Have a chat and/or offer a listening ear. Offer coffee or tea. Maintaining a good atmosphere (house rules) in which every visitor feels at ease and safe. Keeping the visitor's room tidy and doing all kinds of practical work necessary for this. During an evening shift you eat along, help with serving, clear up after the meal, and you also try to create a good atmosphere at the table.
Job requirements:
In principle, you always run a voluntary service in pairs. You work according to the vision of Markt 17: an open and service-oriented attitude towards others. No condemnation of the visitor's being different. Everyone can be there as they are. We work from the so-called 'Presence approach'. We ask our volunteers to have respect for people. Don't reject people. Being able to cooperate based on the Market 17 vision. Having the heart in the right place and being able to take a beating. Having room for (the story of) the other. Not wanting to 'take over' their story and thus focus attention on themselves. Not necessarily focused on problem solving. We are not an aid or care institution. Paying attention to and interested in people, that's what it's all about. Offering solidarity to the visitor, no matter how different/strange it may seem. Confidentiality: the story of the visitors remains within the 4 walls of Markt 17, unless otherwise agreed with them personally. A good command of the Dutch language is very important for this position. Knowledge of English or other languages is also welcome because of any foreign-speaking visitors.
What can you offer the volunteer?:
Attendance courses are offered by way of equipment. The coordinator is the point of contact for questions and offers coaching / guidance. Both in the corridors and by appointment. The coordinator also points out various relevant courses and training that are organized locally. Occasional volunteer meetings are organised. Here you meet fellow volunteers and discuss the work together. The municipality of Wageningen has arranged collective accident and damage insurance for volunteers.
What makes the work worthwhile?:
Our volunteers work in an environment with lots of fun and in a relaxed atmosphere. Volunteers meet people they would normally not meet. This gives you the opportunity to broaden your social network. Offering hospitality and a listening ear is not a one-way street: you often receive attention and interest from visitors.
Working time:
5:45 PM - 9:15 PM
