As a bird caretaker you help us help the birds!
Do you want to help us with the care of the birds?
Proper care starts with clean lofts, so that our sick and injured birds can recover in a hygienic environment. Cleaning the accommodation is therefore part of the job. There is great satisfaction in learning how to carefully pick up the patients and transfer them to a clean pen. Preparing the right type of food is also part of the job and some weak birds may be fed individually. Naturally, an (assistant) manager or experienced volunteer guides the newcomers with advice and action. But it is a hospital, so to keep the stress for the patients to a minimum, work continues well and unnecessary noise or contact is avoided as much as possible.
Those who have built up sufficient experience and are resistant to stress may sometimes assist the caretaker with medical procedures. If necessary, you can join the 'baby room' where experienced volunteers take over the role of the bird parents and feed the very young during the spring and summer.
Enthusiasm, inquisitiveness and a good command of Dutch to be able to read the patient cards are the most important selection criteria, as well as availability for one or two half-days of approximately four hours per week (weekends if desired). If you are interested in birds and caring for them, you can learn a lot with us, each at his own pace.
We have a very nice team of volunteers who are managed by 3 permanent employees. Do you also want to commit yourself to help the birds that got into trouble by people? Even if you can only go in spring and summer, it's already very nice! We would like to hear from you!
