Summary
AEZEL is the digital platform for genealogical and historical-geographic data (www.aezel.eu). A lot of work has been done, but also a lot to do!Detailed description
Are you interested in the history of your village or city? AEZEL is looking for heritage volunteers!
AEZEL ( Archives for Heritage of Southern Netherlands Properties and Communities ) is the digital platform for genealogical and historical-geographic data from Limburg. Brought about through the unwavering efforts of the countless volunteers from across the province who have entered many millions of genealogical and geographic facts into files over the past 11 years. You can see the result on the website AEZEL.eu. But there is still a lot to do and to improve!
We therefore need people who come up with ideas, but especially people who help realize these ideas, technically or a-technical. Any help is welcome, but specifically we are currently looking for volunteers for:
- The Technical Core Team is urgently looking for reinforcement to ensure that the continuity of AEZEL is guaranteed and that new developments can be tackled. This team takes care of the technical management of databases and the website, the expansion with basic modules and examines whether questions from the field can be realized via AEZEL. You help to make Limburg's heritage accessible for generations to come!
- Cadastral material inspector . The cadastral data entered by volunteers must be checked using control programs in Excel and adjusted if necessary. This is a list of owners (originally indicating tables, known as OATs) and associated cards (Minute Cards). It is an important final check before the data is put on the website and requires accurate and independent work. Thorough knowledge of Excel and if possible of a drawing package is desired.
- GIS cartographer. For a large part of Limburg, the cadastral maps of 1842 have been converted into accurate digital maps, but a number of maps, mainly in South-East Limburg, still have to be georeferenced and drawn. The goal is to put all Limburg plots on the current maps and to be able to request the owners of 1842. As a follow-up to this, we will also reconstruct the maps from 1843-1970. This requires knowledge of a drawing package, preferably QGIS.
- Technical coordinator . At Archives de Domijnen in Sittard-Geleen, about 50 volunteers work on various heritage projects. A volunteer coordinator assists, with assistance, these volunteers in their daily work. However, we are also looking for a technical content coordinator. This coordinator helps determine when which projects will be worked on and how the activities must be technically carried out. He also gives practice sessions for this. Empathetic leadership is essential for this.
- Translator French and German . Our website is basically four languages. The Dutch text is ready and online, the English text will soon be too. We are looking for volunteers who can translate the texts (together about 30 A4) into correct French and German.
Information
The flexibility within AEZEL is great. Depending on the position, you can choose to come and work in the archive on a fixed part of the day or parts of the day, but you can also choose to do this at home when it suits you best. A simple PC with internet connection is enough to do most of the work.
Age is not important either. There are challenges for every age group in AEZEL!
In short: AEZEL would also like to see you as a volunteer. Together we are strong and we contribute to posterity in your neighborhood, town or city.
Registration
If you are interested in one of these positions, please send a short introduction of yourself to our board member Corry de Koster, cdkoster@aezel.eu, 06 29036526.
