Does your heart lie with people with intellectual disabilities ?
Do you have a talent for working with felt or textiles, making chutney or jam, or working with wood? Or do you have other creative talents?
Do you enjoy sharing your talent with people with intellectual disabilities for a day (part) every week? Then our Workshop might be just the place for you.
We are looking for an enthusiastic employee for the De Ark workshop in Bloemendaal
assistant activity leader (volunteer)
In our Workshop, six or seven people with a mental disability come every day for meaningful daytime activities. Under the supervision of a professional activity supervisor, they usually work outside in the morning, in our Garden or on the grounds of the Dennenheuvel Estate. And in the afternoon in our creative Workshop. There they make the most beautiful products at their own pace, without work or performance pressure and especially in line with what they themselves like, are good at or want to learn. Sometimes they work together and make herbal tea, chutney or jam. Usually everyone works on their own products of wood, paper, textile, felt, paint, pricking, etc. Our products are sold a few times a year at markets or on special occasions and are very popular.
Every day at least one volunteer works as an assistant to the activity leader. You help the participants with their activities, contribute to a pleasant atmosphere, provide coffee, tea or soup, receive participants, go reading or walking with them, exactly what is needed. The activity leader is responsible and your point of contact. She and also our participants are undoubtedly very happy with the help that you can offer them.
Our Workshop is open every day from 09:00 to 15:30. The parts of the day for which we are looking for assistants change regularly.
Who are we?
The Ark Community Haarlem consists of:
· Arkhuis Pelletier .
· De Ark workshop , where six to seven people come every day for meaningful daytime activities.
· Tuinderij De Ark, where the people from the workshop work in the morning. De Tuinderij grows vegetables for approximately 80 harvest participants, people from the region who come to harvest themselves.
· And a large community of people (friends) who carry the whole. Many of these people are also volunteers in the house, the garden and/or the workshop.
Community and spirituality are important to us. This takes shape in our weekly closing (celebration and meal) on Friday afternoon, at all kinds of other festive or important moments and in the way we interact with each other and with others.
The Arkgemeenschap Haarlem is part of the international federation of Arkgemeenschaps ( L'Arche ). We live and work on the Dennenheuvel estate in Bloemendaal. In a few years we will move to new construction that is being built there.

About De Ark Haarlem
In the Arkcommunity Haarlem, people with and without intellectual disabilities live together every day in Arkhuis Pelletier. People with a distance to regular work come to work in our Workshop and Tuinderij. People who want to cooperate in the house, garden or workshop and people who want to sympathize with our housemates and participants together form a community. A community that is open to many and that is also inspired by them.
Enriching differences
People are different: every person has his own qualities, talents, shortcomings and limitations. We believe that dealing with people who are different is enriching. As far as we are concerned, this applies in particular to people with intellectual disabilities.
